In this post, I am going to visit my favorite artists’ websites and see if I can find interview questions. I’ll use the interview questions to create my own questions. Then I’ll answer them!
I hope that my answers help you think about your art journey.
Let’s get started!
What tool makes you feel like a kid in a candy store?

All of them. I have a box filled with paint and a few tools. I love opening the box and selecting the colors I’ll be using for my painting sessions.
What are your favorite books?
The Harry Potter Series is magical. Everything from the names to Hogwartz makes me dream and think about how good always wins. I have been reading Aladdin and Arabian Nights. I like reading fairytale adventures for moral lessons. Learning by Heart: Teachings to Free the Creative Spirit is the best art book ever. For more book ideas click here.
Name a recent project you are working on? How have you grown?

I have been interested in this book called Color Me Floral. The artist creates abundant floral arrangements according to flowers that grow each season. I paint small vases with overflowing flowers. I was definitely thinking of abundance. I need more abundant thoughts in my life.
The other project I am working on is a finger-painting book. I have been taking Suzanne Allard classes and learning how to be free in my work. I am learning abundance, that I have many ideas. There is no I can’t when it comes to art! We are all artists.
Why art? Why do you paint flowers?

Art chose me. My earliest memories are at school loving the way paint felt on my hands. I could make a mess, and it was amazing. Everything about me is art. I love color and am curious about the world around me, specifically nature. I always asked why! I still question everything. Flowers are easy to draw and paint. Wandering around gardens is also a wonderful hobby!
How about a fun abstract flower idea?
Think of your favorite treat or place. How does that make you feel? Then get out your supplies and start doodling or painting. I just read the prompt Today is a good day to…
Play with color and shapes. Except for your starting idea, don’t think about what you are doing and simply paint.

What is the biggest lesson I have learned?

The biggest lesson I have learned is there is truly only make. I know there are happy mistakes. If I allow myself to feel like I made a mistake with painting, there’s nothing happy about it. I show up to my sessions with the belief that there is no right way to paint a flower. When I do, my work is beautiful!
What is your favorite work of art?
Many works of art make me stop and wonder why or how. It may be a color or technique that interests me. There is one that I always think about and that is the School of Athens. I like learning about the world around me. The Renaissance period was about being open-minded. I love wandering around and being drawn to what sparks my curiosity.
What do I hope others gain from my work?

I want people to know that we are all artists. Everyone can paint. The proof of that as children we all painted. We owned the world. After a certain age, we say oh I can’t paint. I’m not an artist. We dismiss our creative spirit for as James Victore says to pay the bills or conform to societal norms. I want everyone to know that there is room for all of us. There is peace and freedom that comes from painting. This is what I get from painting. I love to paint.
Choose an artist quote? How does the quote influence your art?
I like positive messages. Painting a few posters is on my list. I’ll choose a quote by Faith Ringgold. Tar Beach is an inspirational read too.
You can’t sit around and wait for somebody to say who you are. You need to write it and paint it and do it.
These words help me acknowledge doubt, or is it fear? Am I going to throw this painting away or keep going? I choose to keep going. I have learned that there are no mistakes. There is only make. Those wise words are Corita Kent.
What does the word artist mean to you? What is A Painted Garden?

Artist is what you do that can make a difference in someone’s life. Yes, an artist can sing or paint like me. My art is about the peace and freedom I feel as I paint. If a doctor or teacher is good that makes a difference in our care. A Painted Garden is a creative place where there are flowers, tea, and a big table where I can make a mess and paint. A Painted Garden is where wildflowers grow. There is no right way to paint flowers.
Ok, I had fun answering these questions and gave myself the inspiration to keep painting and creating. If you want to answer any of these questions, please do. Thank you for reading.
