I am curious and want to know if you sign your art? I am an artist. I am working on finger painting flowers and a winter garden collection. Redbubble came out with a newsletter and I’m ready to read it. Then I was reading Cat Coq’s blog and I noticed her signature on her artwork. That brings me here.

Should I sign my work? A few of my paintings have my penciled signature. I don’t traditionally sign my work. If I have signed my work, it’s because I felt like I had to. I want people to notice the colors and ways that I paint flowers. I feel like a signature would interfere with the elements of the painting.

I am an artist and believe in my work. Yet these days I am doubting my work. My goal is to stay in the equilibrium of painting. There is no good or bad. It is just art, beautiful art. I think at some point I would like to create a signature stamp. I could stamp the back of my art. I like the idea of someone saying,” Oh I like that painting where did you get it? The simple reply is A Painted Garden.

Do you add your signature to your art? How do you do it? What are your thoughts? Comment below.

I am working on fun projects. If you have any ideas, please let me know.

With Love,

Mireya

I sign things sometimes but now that you mentioned it…I think we should always sign things.

Yes, but I always think of my students. They pick up the paint brush and paint. I write their names, so I know who the painting belongs to. I think maybe if I sign my name, I will have to live up to that every time. Then there is how you sign it. Do you use pencil?

No. I use a fine tip pen but it’s very slight. I never used to sign things, but people started asking me to do so. And your art is your art…you always live up to it. 🙂 But I understand what you’re saying.

I was thinking that the next time I go to an art store I should get a size 2 brush and use it to sign my work with leftover paint. Maybe.

Hi Mireya, I always sign my paintings when they are finished, if I am satisfied with the result. Some artists sign on the back, I sign on the front at the bottom somewhere.
