Have you ever listened to a song or read words that have you dancing mind, body, and soul? If you’re like me, the words linger for days. In this post, I’ll share my favorite artist’s quote of the moment and tips to paint watercolor quotes.
Paul Keel Quote
This week I guided students through a Paul Klee project. The following quote has me saying, absolutely true and how creative!
A line is a dot that went for a walk.
What I take away from these brilliant words is to play.
Before we watercolor words let me share four of my favorite art prints.

There are many ways to create word art. I have used paper collage, watercolor, and acrylic paint. For this project, we are going to use watercolor. I might add a gold marker and colored pencils for details. Use what you have.
Supplies
Here’s what we’ll need: watercolors, a round brush, and paper.

Get to know your brushes
I have explored various brushes and sizes. Again if all you have is one brush then great. You can still paint beautiful letters with one brush. Test your brush and see how it writes when you press down or lift up.

It is a good idea to write your thoughts on scratch paper first.
Now let’s begin painting quotes
Your color choice will depend on your inspiration. I was thinking of a garden that has orange and pink roses. Think of your favorite song lyric or words you live by. Let the ideas flow.

I came up with these three quotes. Sometime this week I will digitize these and turn them into posters.
Suggestions
It was fun trying different tools. I tried three brushes. The best writing tool was my gold-green Neocolor. You can use a colored pencil or Neocolor to write your words before you paint them. Have a few sheets of copy paper and practice painting your quote before you begin painting on watercolor paper. If you make a mistake, it might be fixable in the digitizing process.
