Gouache combines everything I love about watercolor and acrylic paint! Gouache is my new love! If you want to learn more about Gouache, watercolor, and acrylic qualities, then you’ll enjoy this post!

Gouache is like watercolor. You can dilute gouache with water and get various tones. When gouache dries you can add a few drops of water to reactivate it. The paint blends beautifully.

When you are painting with acrylic paint, it dries fast. Once it dries you can’t reactivate it. Many times I mix a beautiful pink and can’t save it. Oh, but I can with gouache!

Here Are the Benefits of Painting with Gouache!

Gouache is fabulous for layering. Watercolor paint takes time to dry. If you are like me, it’s hard to wait for your watercolor layer to dry. Gouache dries quick and is opaque which makes for beautiful layering! Gouache dries matte and stays true to the pigment. Acrylic paint always dries darker. This makes acrylic paintings harder to scan and digitize. I have done some beautiful work with acrylic paint. Sometimes my bright colors scan dull.

Watercolor and acrylic have a place in my creative process but Gouache is my new favorite medium! I want a primary yellow to mix with Prussian blue for lovely greens. Oh my, I just realized that Orange Lake and Prussian Blue make a beautiful green! I knew Orange Lake was a good color when I saw it at the art store and instantly had to have it. Orange Lake, how can that be wrong?

Yes I have had two colors in my toolbox and wanted to give this paint a try. There’s different paint to try and it’s lovely to explore.
