a sticker with a blue border, three flowers and grow like wildflowers

Color is a huge part of my art. Nature is colorful! That is my subject. Color is an element that I have needed to work on. I will go to my favorite store and observe the colors. Color draws me in. Then I try to paint many times, but my art doesn’t come together. I love my ideas, but the painting doesn’t feel right.

In this post, I want to think about how color has shaped my art.

Here’s a quote about color!

Colors are the smiles of nature. Leigh Hunt

That is literally the point of my art. I express how nature makes me feel. Now on to the lessons I have been learning!

My Anthropologie Favorites

Going to my favorite store and observing what speaks to my spirit is a wonderful idea! I saw this beautiful ingido dress with a big yellow flower. Guess what I am working on?

That brings me to my color book!

Yes! I haven’t pulled this book out in a while, but turns out I have and can mix lovely colors.

Back to this indigo color. I wasn’t sure what to call this color. Looking through my book helped me confirm that yes, it’s an indigo! I mixed that color using blue, probably Phthalo blue, and red. I added a little yellow, too. And all this indigo brings me to my lesson, a brilliant lesson for easy color mixing.

Using Three Colors to Mix Your Palette

Total game changer for me. Here’s why. I get to the painting quicker, which is what I love to do! My color palette is cohesive and gives my paintings the unity that they need. I have three colors, and using my curiosity and creativity, I make them work!

Here are some paintings I made using three colors.

I am really excited about the direction my work is going.

Do you have a color mixing tip?

Is this post your walk in the garden? Thank you so much for being here.
