Art has taught me so much about myself, life, and working with others. The biggest lesson that art has taught me is that everyone is an artist.

I once wrote the words Art makes you laugh, love, hope, dream, and just be. What will you make them feel?

Art is not about the canvas or the song but how the song makes you feel. That emotion is the art. We all have a talent, a skill that creates a positive emotion for others. Through that skill, we become artists. Some people will say art is for kids. I don’t know how to do art. Part of that statement is true! Kids are the best artists. They have no preconceived notion of what art is or should be. Kids do their own thing.

That is my point! Everyone is an artist; they just forgot how to be one. What is that quote about how you made them feel?

Oh right, Maya Angelou. That emotion is the art. It’s the way an artist gathers texture and color to make you feel warm and peaceful. It’s in how that song makes you remember the ones you love and the good old days.

Here are a few other lessons that art has taught me.

Your art goes through a process. It’s awkward. You feel like, what am I doing? Then comes the moment where everything comes together. Yes, you learn to surrender to the flow! It is about the making, not the result. Take one step at a time and just do it!

Some people mention creative block. I have never had that. You always have ideas, but your mind can make you think you don’t know how to do it. You learn to trust yourself. You may think the answers are out there, but the answers come from within. The more you make art, the more confident you are in doing it.

Thank you for being here. Have a wonderful day!
