This week I worked on paper collage. Paper collage is such a wonderful experience because you never know what you will create until you do. I have worked on a ton of ideas. With all of them, yes, I had an initial idea, but it wasn’t until the end that I was like, I like this!

I paint a bunch of paper. I was going to do words for the cover of my book and a poster. The colors were greens, blue and pink. There is something about painting random strokes of color. Then holding the textured paper in my hand and choosing the spots I want to cut for letters, flowers or leaves. After that comes the arranging. I laid out all of the little papers to see if I liked the colors before I cut each into a letter. Even then I decided to put the paper in a pile and choose as I go.

Those words choose as I go are why I love paper collage. That is the essence of there is only make. Choose as I go. Sometimes I overthink and obsess too much! The magic happens when you just let go and choose to make art.
