a palette filled with orange paint

I have orange paint left over from the colors I had mixed up. It’s acrylic paint. Acrylic paint dries fast. Before my paint dries up, I want to use it.

I had no plan. I just wanted flowers in a beautiful orange that was a warm hint to fall.

My Finger-Painting Process

To begin, I watered down my paint on a plate. I mix the paint with my finger. Then I make marks of paint on my paper. Next, I add water to the page to spread the paint around. After my background was dry, I created the petals of my flowers. The entire painting was painted with my fingers, except for the stems and small leaves.

There is something about paint on my fingers that is absolutely comforting. I enjoy making a mess. The gold green is right there with my favorite green gold Neocolor.

Cat Coq’s recent email suggests painting leaves and pumpkins to build a collection. I don’t want to paint leaves or pumpkins. Maybe I could finger paint pumpkins. Now I want to paint pumpkins! I have an idea!

I like picking something that interests me, or that I am curious about and going from there. Then making marks and encouraging myself to keep going. Right now, it is orange, fingerpainting and flower doodles.

I find myself thinking whatever this is, good will come from it. Good always comes from making art because you get to be in one or all of these situations: it’s practice, you develop your style, it’s an idea but then you get IDEAS, you find your peace and the biggest situation is when you realize that everything else is noise.

There is only make.
