Do I sit surrounded by all of my supplies and suddenly this brilliance magically forms on my canvas? Not exactly. The best ideas come from a flow that really is just making art.

Where does the idea come from? You see something. You live an experience. It hugs you. It holds you. Does the creative process include a collection of everything that captivates an artis. Frida Kahlo’s art came from her pain, her culture and artist influences. Frida came to mind as I am writing this. W

We all have a canvas and a voice. What are we going to say? We all have that way to connect with others and it makes a difference.

I love that in spite of everything that went on in Frida’s life she was able to say

Feet, what do I need you for when I have wings to fly?

Where does My Art Come from?

Purple flowers in a blue vase painting

I love flowers, plants, trees, butterflies and being outside breathing fresh air. These are the colors I observed in Anthropologie. There is some cultural influence. I like to paint my flowers as if they are painted on a wall.

Wild pink and Orange wildflower roses painted with finger painting

Here I am using finger painting to teach myself that tools don’t matter. I wanted pops of pink and peach in a gold frame. I see a lot of gold frames on home decor videos.

Painted flowers in Lavender, plum and mauve

Fields of tulips in Netherlands. What pops of color to motivate you! Purple is the color of creativity.

Peach Roses and Yellow Flower Bouquet

Orange is a color of fall. My mind went to the orange roses I saw in one garden and the beautiful shades of pink roses I saw in another garden. Then I thought about Austin Kleon’s words of painting something you want to see the next day. I wonder how I will add to this painting.
