I have started painting doodles for my coloring book and am on flower doodle 34 for my coloring book! Drawing flowers has helped me align with my style and explore tools.

I had walnut ink that I was going to throw away and realized I could paint flowers. I have.

Flower doodles with watercolor and walnut ink

I was thinking an autumn color palette. I had to have pink and yellow as part of my palette. I used a Princeton Velvet Touch brush to paint. I added drops of paint and let it dry creating beautiful texture. The paint dried the way it dried. There were no mistakes. I painted on a piece of construction paper. What makes these flowers interesting is that I painted on construction paper, used ink, watercolor and doodled simple flowers.

I have seen patterns with brown painted flowers and peach colors. That was my motivation! I like my print. It was fun exploring ink that I hadn’t used in a long time. New tools or new ways to use the tools you have always helps create interesting ideas.

I want to continue thinking about products and creating art from that perspective. If I paint flowers in a vase, I want to think about how the painting will look on a wall. My watercolor flower elements will make great stickers in addition to art for the cover of my coloring book.

You can find out more about my coloring book project in this post. Subscribe to my blog for more details and certainly to know when the coloring book launches.
