I am super excited to share my collection and most importantly what I have learned! I wanted to prove to myself that I could create a surface pattern design. There are many resources out there. If I can do it, you can too! We can do it!
Here we go!
Change your Mindset
I can’t do this; is a phrase we all say. Erase this idea from your mind. You can create art. Pick up a pen or paintbrush and make those marks. Take one design or two and turn that into art. Many times, you already have the art you need. All you need to do is turn it into a pattern. I am good at creating but I will admit that I’m not as good in the digitizing phase. There is the whole putting the ideas together, but I am learning!
I took this simple idea.

and turned these painted flowers into my pattern called Party in the Garden.

What I love most about this pattern is the different pinks with the pop of golden yellow. It is bright and warm, everything I want for my art!
If you want details on how I created my pattern read my previous post entitled Putting Together the Pieces for My Mini Card Collection. You can get free resources on classes and more step-by-step help.
Here is My Collection

Talk about saying I can’t do this! There were so many twists and turns. Yet every time I had to keep going. Here we are! For my first pattern, this is wonderful. I mean I feel like I can do this. I just have to practice. I went from Surface Pattern Design is not for me, to I want to do this!
This is a pattern that will work for many seasons. The next phase will be to see how this looks printed. Catcoq gave a talk and presentations of tips for creating patterns that sell.
Oh, if you want to see my designs on products click here. My goal is to have these patterns along with coloring books for sale on my website by October. I am thinking up a card collection.
Here are the Wonderful Lessons That I Learned
- If you are not sure, begin! Figure it out along the way.
- I am getting better at Affinity Photo
- I am learning how to create art in Canva!
- One project leads to another. I signed up for another class and am creating teacher resources for TPT on Canva!
- I have a better idea for my fingerpainting book
- I am an artist!
- I can do this!
- I know how to put together a collection, well more than I did before!
Finally, I am done! I have been waiting for a few days going back and forth with ideas. I feel good. I will leave this for a few days and see what I really like about it. Then create my cards. I want to hand letter my own words. We shall see. I am going to relax with a snack and a movie.
Thank you for reading! If you have any ideas or tips on creating collections. If you want to share your art, please do!
