First of all, Feck Perfuction is a good read. I have read the book before, and it is a book that I often think about. Oh my, if we are talking about good reads I must mention Learning by Heart: Teachings to Free Your Creative Spirit!
I finished my dramatic bouquet painting and feeling motivated to continue with my finger-painting project. In the spirit of all of these books and my painting, let me motivate you too.
Dramatic Bouquet Painting

Dramatic Bouquet Painting is a class by Suzanne Allard. I worked on this project for over a week, adding details, changing colors. Yes, I did some blending with my fingers. It all came together! I let go of everything and simply painted. That is the best advice I can give for creating your best art. There is truly only make!
Here is my painting process
Here is a process video
Here are the steps.
Use orange to draw the basic shapes to my painting. I chose orange because orange is the complement of blue.
Start filling in your shapes thinking of flowers. I wanted roses.
Use a dark color and for the above steps. Now use a lighter color like pink for the details. Or you can do the opposite.
Paint the leaves using ultramarine blue and yellow. Add a drop of orange to create color harmony. Basically, you want to have a hero color. Then use that color to mix into the rest of your colors.
For example, add a drop of orange to mix into your ultramarine blue.
Go back and forth with these steps until the painting feels finished.
Last, add details to make your painting pop. I used a neocolor to add details to the leaves and used the back of my brush to stamp in the centers of my flowers.
As I observe the beginning of my project to the beautiful result, I realize that art takes times.
Wear your invisible crown, the greatness you were born with, the greatness you felt when you had an idea and shared it without wondering what they will think. You want more paper and paint. The ideas keep coming. That is why, there is only make!
Here are some other awesome words.
In the words of James Victore’s Feck Perfuction
“Your job in life is to overcome yourself every day.”
In the words of Austin Kleon’s Show Your Work.
“Turn your flow into stock.”
In the words of Corita Kent
“Find a place you trust and try trusting it for a while”
In my words, love who you are. Paint even if you are not sure, you will be.
Now it’s your turn to paint. Please share your work.
