Azulejos Portuguese patterns are beautiful. In this post, I’m going to share my Azulejos inspired flower arrangement and how I’ve been applying my finger-painting tips.

For my project, I used Prussian Blue Gouache, Yellow Medium and white.

I wanted to sketch my design with Neocolors first.

Drawing design first sometimes helps me build my confidence. I like to use my oil pastels for the days when I must paint but don’t have the time. I always have time but sometimes I want to draw.

Here are the tips that have helped me paint this beautiful painting.

  • Using your middle finger makes a difference.
  • Oh, but using your pinky works too!
  • Using a spray bottle helps to keep your paint moist and have the right consistency for finger painting.
  • Have a paper towel on hand to wipe your fingers before you get another color. This will keep you from mixing muddy colors.
  • I had to change my water a few times to keep it clean.

Remember to explore and see what your fingers can do. I’ll show you that in another post.

The flowers and vase were finger painted. I did use a brush for the leaves and other details. I absolutely want this in my shop. It is slightly crooked. Yes, I know. Maybe that is why I like it even more.

Build a Board full of Inspiration

By the way this idea came to me from a blog post or newsletter that I subscribe to. I have seen Azulejos art before, but I am working on a finger-painting project and looking for ideas.

It is wonderful to have a space where you can have your collection of all of these beautiful images, color inspiration, dreamy landscapes and ceramics, it could be supplies, but just items that ignite your senses. Your curiosity will say I could paint this! You will never have creative block again. I always know what to paint.

I hope you enjoyed my project and finger painting. There is something about this that is relaxing. I have been beginning my painting sessions with a quick finger-painting project. Are you finger painting along with me? Do you have any finger-painting tips to share? Please share your work below.
