What or Who Are the Critics?

The critics are all the voices who tell you that you need to be a certain way or you’re not accepted. You are different and have your style. Others will come along with their rules of typography. Your letters have to be perfect; you can’t use that color or create trendy art if you want to sell your art.

If you are doing something, there is always going to be someone who has something to say about it. The biggest critic is the voice in your head.

How Do We Deal with the Critics?

The way to handle critics is to make your art! The voices can always make you feel like you are not enough. The art you make, the more art you make, the more it becomes about the idea. There are no good or bad paintings. You have an idea and that is your only focus. You begin to make better choices on what to listen to or how you spend your time. Your creative spirit, your authentic self makes great art. The more you create, the more you just don’t care. It has a way of fading out. Another way to say it is, mind your own business. The more you mind your own business, what a beautiful place. I do have art that is a work in progress file. I’ll add details here and there until it blooms! Many times it’s the practice idea that leads you to the real idea!

Project Time

Go to your supplies and choose what you like. Grab something random. What’s on your mind. When I say what’s on your mind, I mean that scraper tool technique you saw on Pinterest. I also mean, what do you think of your critics? What is a good affirmation you can tell yourself?
