For the past 30 days I have been filling up my journal with doodles and sketch ideas. In this post, I will reflect on my journal experience to see how I have grown. Art Journals are a fabulous way to embrace your ideas and be the amazing artist you are.

The Intentions of An Art Journal

Art journals help you:

  • explore ideas
  • have a sacred creative space
  • help you make marks and get into the flow

My intentions were to draw a flower a day and explore various tools. My big goal is to draw the way I draw and develop ideas for projects. I dream of wrapping paper patterns. Yes, surface design is something I want to learn!

Here Is What I Have Learned from My 30 Days of Journaling

Blue pen drawing of arch flowers and quote

I can draw! I used various tools like acrylic and watercolor paint, markers and pens. It was the way I felt. I wasn’t comparing or doubting. I just drew. I have skills. I can draw!

I can mix beautiful colors. I have been caught up in trying to create the beautiful colors I see. Then I thought maybe I don’t have the right colors. With my journal I was able to play and discover that I already had the colors I needed!

The more I show up the better my ideas are! During the 30 days I started with a flower a day, then I started doing flowers in a vase. I would reference images on my Pinterest board. At one point I said I’m just going to paint. Paint I did. Oh, and some days I came to my journal with worry and stress. Painting helps!

The best part of a journal is that you realize who you are and appreciate your work.

I have sprinkled some of my journal entries and the project that is the first of many to come from my journal. You can see all of my entries on Instagram where I post daily content. It is my hope that you start your journal. Your best art is waiting.

Do you have a project idea?

With Love, Mireya
