One of the ways that I like to tell my story as an artist is with color. When I stumbled on yellow with magenta, my world changed. It was a where have you been all my life moments.

In this post I will be sharing the beautiful colors that I mixed using yellow and magenta. Then I will share the beautiful flower arrangement that I painted.

Mixing Yellow with Magenta

10 rules for artists

When I mix colors, I like to add a swatch in my journal. My goal is to explore colors so I can easily mix colors and get to the best part which is painting! I have not been happy with my colors. There are certain colors that I am drawn to. I like to wander in Anthropologie and want to paint with all the colors that captivate me.

Who knew that adding a drop of magenta to my yellow would lead to the wonderful peaches and pinks I been wanting to paint with!

I started with three colors: yellow, magenta, and white.

I begin with the yellow and add a little magenta.

Then I use the yellow color to mix in white.

I repeat using magenta.

From there I keep mixing to get various tones.

Smile Blooming Beauties

I am so excited with this painting. It is the first in a long time where I don’t paint the background. I was thinking aqua blue or a pastel peach. I’ll scan it first. Yes, I will leave it as it beautifully is!

Painting felt calm and relaxing. I layered my paint using heavy body paint and basics. At first, the yellow was too bright. I calmed things down with a pastel peach color. What a difference.

Smile Blooming Beauties is in reference to the creative spirit that is always here. It’s that love that always knows. If and when we focus on that, what a wonderful outcome.

I just acquired an ultramarine and will learn how to mix lovely pinks and purples. I am thrilled.

As always thank you for reading. Color is such a beautiful way to express your story as an artist. My hope is that you will have as much joy as I did with mixing colors, exploring and have fun.
