In this post I will share three tips that will I wish I had learned sooner and know at the beginning of my art journey. Then I’ll share tips to help you paint your best work.

Let’s begin!

You Are an Artist and Artists Make Art!

I remember the days of talking as though I were aspiring to be an artist. I would research the right tools and learn all I could about art. The truth is I am an artist. I always have been, and I always will be. I love color. I love texture. The most important part about being an artist is to do it!

You Don’t Find Your Style. You Have Style!

I always asked this question. I would take a course. I would feel confident that at the end of the course I will have my answer. Thinking back there are great lessons that I have learned in a course, but the best learning is in the process. You must pick up the tool of your choice and begin! Let your art give you the answers you seek.

Use What You Have

In every sense of the word, use what YOU have. We all have a purpose and brilliance within us. I forget who said these words, but they go something like this. You never run out of creativity. The more you use creativity the more creativity you’ll have. It is so true because the more I paint the better my ideas are.

The other part of using what you have applies to your tools. We don’t need fancy tools. Ok, I do have my eyes set on a $60 Winsor palette. I always get a thrill thinking of how sometimes the songs we can’t stop singing were written on a napkin in a somewhere diner.

It is always an ordinary day, when an idea pops in your head. You have to follow it.

Here is what you can do to help you see that your brilliance is already within you.

Make a lot of art. Then lay it out before you. What do you observe? Where did these ideas come from? Repeat the process.

Go to your favorite store. What colors call your name?

Create a mood board on Pinterest.

What I tell myself

Follow your spirit and the higher love. What do you think about your art?

I like my art, but I observe and can tell where I let go. I painted. I simply made art. That is the art I like best. I can see where I thought to much thinking my art had to look a certain way to be art.

I am always drawn to the ceramics at Anthropolgie. I love creating with my hands. I love being outdoors. Flowers are easy for me to paint.

I home the honesty in answering why I create and what I think of my art can help you realize to look within. I believe in art. We all do and yet we push that aside because of what others think. I invite you to share the inspiration behind your art. Remember to always make your art. Don’t ever apologize for it or try to shy away from your art in fear of what others think.

With Love, Mireya
