Spring is here! I am filling up my art journal. I usually add daily content on Instagram. In this post I will be sharing four lessons that are helping me paint beautiful flowers.
Before I begin, I want to say that art is a process and as you paint the first idea or ideas may not be the ones but rest assured or better, paint assured that the next painting will be the one!
Ok so let’s get onto the four lessons that are helping me make beautiful art.

Keep Making
There is no good or bad art. You paint. You create and you learn. We all make mistakes. We act like mistakes are bad. Mistakes help us grow. I was trying to digitize and put together a floral quote with the words decorate the world with your art. I wanted to post about it, but it wasn’t ready. The lettering was too light and removing the background was awful. Then I was like now what. The moment I let go and positively declared a new idea will come. Here I am!
Keep Painting Flowers as You Paint Them
The more you paint, the more you let go of what others think. You realize that all you care about is painting. I remember the days of, how do I find my style. I would join a class or a workshop. The top question was always how do I find my style or my voice.
You have a style. You are an artist. You have a voice. Decorate the world with your art.
The more you paint, the sooner you realize that you have always been there.
Simplify Your Color Palette

It is easier to work with a simplified palette. This is what Frugal Crafter suggested when I asked for advice on an easier way to mix colors. That is it! I am going to simplify my palette.
Sometimes I feel like there are so many colors and I love them all!
Here is what I have learned about color:
- A simple color palette will unify my flower paintings.
- Greens are easy to mix.
- Ultramarine is great for mixing summer mauve.
- I still love my three primares: magenta, turquoise and yellow
- You don’t have to mix every single color on your palette to be unique.
- Purchase a few beautiful colors that you know you’ll have a hard time mixing.
- Make one color your hero
- Layering color is a fabulous way to paint beautiful flowers

A great way to learn about color is to observe paintings, colors of clothes and flowers to see what captivates you. You can build your palette from that perspective.
An Art Journal Is Your Best Friend
There is something magical about painting in an art journal. Sometimes I will want to judge but then I encourage myself to keep going. It is my journal, no one has to see it. I can explore all ideas. Then if I want to share it I will, maybe turn it into a print.
Your art journal is your best friend because she won’t judge, and she will always encourage those weird ideas that you know are awesome!

Make time to doodle on copy paper, draw with crayons or whatever you want to do.
Ok so I hope you enjoyed these tips! If you have an idea that makes all the difference in your painting sessions, please do tell! If my tips help you, I’d love to know that as well, oh and see your work too!
