You know those cute doily heart shapes that you can find at craft stores during Valentine’s Day? They make great stamps. In today’s project we are going to stamp with doilies to create a beautiful heart shape poster. Then I’ll end the post by sharing words about loving yourself and being who you are.

Let us begin!

Supplies

For this project you will need:

  • pink heart doilies (I purchased mine at Dollar Tree. For 1.25 you get 30.)
  • pink, yellow and white paint
  • watercolor paper
  • a paint brush

The above is my list and what I am using. You what colors you have or want to use.

How to Stamp with Doilies

The first time I tried this, I did it so wrong. That is ok. This is creative exploration. Plus, I can tell you how to do it, so you don’t ruin a sheet of watercolor paper. I didn’t ruin a sheet of paper. I turned over the mess and started over.

Take your doily and place it on your paper. Then dip your brush in paint and paint over the doily as you hold it in place. Be gentle because doilies are made of thin paper and rip easily. The ones I am using are. There is an artist who uses fabric doilies to stamp on fabric. It’s wonderful! Ok once you paint your doily, slowly lift up the paper to reveal your pattern.

Do not and when I say don’t, I mean do not paint the doily then try and stamp with it. That did not work. What a mess. You still get an interesting texture if that is something you want to do. For this project I wanted my hearts.

It is All in the Details

Here is my final art piece and I love it! I had to paint the background pink.

I used a pink Posca Pen to write the words make, love and give. I used another pink pen to draw flowers in various sizes. From the idea to finished poster, I just went with what I wanted to do. Of course, I thought about my artists who taught me this wonderful idea last year.

There is Only Make!

Last year I brought in random papers, glitters and paint for my students to create Valentine’s Cards. Never did I expect a group to stamp with them using paint. I had never thought about doing that. That is what the words make, love and give are about. The act of making something that you love, that is what you should give to the world. Children are always the best artists because they don’t question if it makes sense. They just do it. That is what they always say when I ask. Yeah, brilliance!

Have you missed out on my previous project? I am currently doing a 10-day challenge inspired by self-love. I have 5 more days to go. I will do a post on the lessons that I have learned and include links to all of my projects. You can see the tulips, paper collage flowers, textures, and more.

If you are painting with me, I’d love to see it. Comment below with a link to your site. Maybe I’ll create a post and include some of your ideas.

With Love, Mireya
