It is lovely to play with color, test your brushes, doodle lines and see what you can do! Are you familiar with EttaVee’s work? She paints beautiful swatches of color. In today’s post, I am going to paint an abstract heart inspired by EttaVee. I did take her class. I am going to go with what I remember and have fun!

Supplies

For this project you will need:

  • brushes in various sizes
  • watercolor or acrylic paint
  • paper
  • whatever colors your heart desires
  • paint and pens for add details

You can also use markers or oil pastels. Use what you have. I am guiding you through my process and the tools that I use. I will be sharing two different hearts. I should share a few paintings that my students painted. I’ll do that here. The key idea is to paint with your heart.

How to Paint Your Heart

Apply color to one side of the heart. Add the same color on the other side of the heart. Go back and forth. If you apply a light color. Add a darker color next it. Keep going. You want to have soft strokes. The heart is yours. Make it your own!

This is the acrylic paint sample but it’s the same process.

Abstract Heart with Watercolor

I painted this heart with Crayola Paint and on butcher paper. I didn’t mix colors as I usually do. I mixed my colors on the paper by layering and blending the colors. I let myself get absorbed by all the art happening around me. Art helps you find and stay in peace.

Then I used my acrylic paint pens to add details. Maybe I will add leaves to the orange sections. I sat for an hour getting lost in the doodling details. I love that I was able to make art with minimal tools.

Abstract Heart with Acrylic Paint

I am still working on this abstract heart. This was going to be the project for this post, but I like the one I did with watercolor better! When I need some relaxation, I will finish this heart. I may want to do more paint swatches. What if I don’t want to doodle on this heart.

What to learn more about EttaVee? Here is the link to the Skillshare class I took. If you try this project, I’d love to see it. By the way I keep adding details to the paintings I have been doing. I will do a collective video of all of my self-love themed paintings.

With Love, Mireya
