In today’s post, I want to voice what I do and appreciate my art. I am an artist. Let’s celebrate art and embrace all the beauty that comes from being an artist.

Art is Many Forms

Often times we think of art as the beauty we admire in a museum. Art is all around us. Art is that song we can’t stop singing. Shantell Martin uses black markers on a white canvas. EttaVee does lovely swatches of bright colors. Eric Carle paints effortless strokes of color on tissue paper. From that process he gave us the Hungry Caterpillar. All this beautiful art reminds me that there is room for all of us.

Art Brings Us Closer to Who We Truly Are

We see our favorite artist and think we couldn’t possibly have what they have because, is my art really art. The truth is of course we believe in our art. In our creative space we always want more paper. At the art store we are like kids in a candy store eager to take our goodies home and explore. The doubt comes when we give power to the outside forces of negative thoughts and doubt. When we create in our zone it’s such a peaceful equilibrium. You might come to your sessions with baggage but as you keep creating, you don’t care.

Art Helps You Listen and Reflect

I am reminded of a powerful example for creativity. Come to think of it I’ve been thinking about our awesome collage art. Yes, students had ideas. I had ideas. We turned those awesome ideas into beautiful art.

The words, “I don’t know what I did. I just painted” remain with me and always will. The best work happens when you just make art. You begin creating and at some point, it just becomes about the art. There is no good or bad. It simply is and it’s wonderful.

Nuture Your Art

The older you get the harder it is to shut off that voice in your head that tells you, you’re not enough. I struggle with this all the time. I question and think too much. Sometimes I can’t shut up about my art. Other times I’m at a loss of words. I don’t struggle with creative block. I never have. I have lots of ideas and I paint all the time. My problem is mindfulness.

If you create for yourself or for your business, take care of your art. Do it with everything you have because you simple can’t imagine doing anything else. Art has to be that one constant in my life. It has to be.
