It is winter, the days are short and cold. All I can think about is the warmth of the sun. In the winter you can have spring. You can dream about it. You can paint spring. Let’s!

An abstract flower artist likes to observe flowers and paint them.

I can’t wait for spring. I have written about my obsession with roses. Have these lovely shades of pink always been there? Have they? Have I been too busy to notice. I could be walking along in thought and suddenly I stop. Pink and peach roses catch my eye. Today I felt so cold hoping the sun would appear long enough to warm my cheeks and my hands.

My next project should be pink roses. I could work on creating pink tones. EttaVee wrote this wonderful post on how to use fluorescent pink. I have painted lots of roses. I think these are my favorite roses. These flowers were the beginning of me letting go and letting the brush do the work. I love painting with a Princeton Catalyst Polytip Bristle Brush. Now I need more of these brushes. Yes, these roses are the moment I became an abstract flower artist.

These were just a doodle session. I think I will practice mixing pinks and brush techniques. Pink roses capture the friendship between nature and me. That is what I was going for in this paper collage flower arrangement, I love the pinks in these blooms. The one yellow flower is a kiss from the sun. Oh, and the hearts.

Like I said, it has been cold, and I just wanted to feel spring pink roses and all. I’ll get out my sketchbook and work on pinks and roses. There’s the painting I have to finish the painting!

What are you working on? What are your favorite pinks and how do you mix them?

With Love, Mireya
