Do you really want to fit in? I don’t want to fit in. My ultimate goal is to be myself and do it so well that I don’t care what people think. In this post, I will talk about trends, staying true to yourself and share a guide for researching trends. I am going to share a trend that I am interested in and create a project that I am working on. Create with me!

A quote about being true to yourself

The only trend you should follow by heart, is your own. It is important to be true to yourself. Oh, this is a great quote for me to work with. Yesterday I posted a hand lettering project idea. Yes, I am going to work on the following words.

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”–Ralph Waldo Emerson

What do you do with trends?

Maybe we should look at trends as a tool to enhance what we do; take mental notes of all the weird and wonderful things that spark your interest. Let’s say you go shop in your favorite store. You can take all the colors and patterns and ideas that you like. Then you put it in your art? Yes, I like this!

Mocha Mousse Trend Project

What a beautiful color! I love neutrals with pops of color. I follow Cat Coq. She is an amazing artist, and each year she puts together a guide of trends for the coming year. Trends can help us come up with new projects or remind us of what we are passionate about. I do love brown tones.

Here is my sketch

I drew flowers in my style.

I used a brown pen to draw my flowers. I want to paint soft pinks and peaches. My vase should be a soft brown color. This is my way of combining the trend with how I paint abstract flowers.

My Final Project

Pink flowers in a soft brown vase

I am really enjoying the brown pen outlines. So, there is a little Mocha Mouse in this painting. Again, this is my style and I love it!

Another painting I did a while ago.

Various colorful watercolor rose doodles

I don’t know if it works with Mocha Mousse. I guess there is a touch of Mocha Mousse. Overall, I was able to work on a new color palette and still make these flowers mine.

Another painting I did for Mocha Mousse

Warm vanilla brown roses pattern

This painting I did for the fun of it. I mixed up a nice soft brown and did some doodles. I love when I do that. I believe my best work happens that way.

My problem with trends

I tried to follow a Mocha Mouse color scheme. It just did not work that way. I used my soft brown to mix tones of pink and peach. These are my colors, my palette. I had to paint with that perspective. My reason for researching trends is to create other ways of promoting my work. The big idea here is to take all those weird and wonderful curiosities and add those ideas to your work. I just focused on what I do. How can I work with this color? I had fun.

I am definitely going to work with Mocha Mousse more. I want to mix beautiful browns. Are you ready to do your trends research and project? Here is a link to Catcoq’s Trend Report. It is free! As always if you paint a trend, let me know. It doesn’t have to be Mocha Mousse. Do what you want.

With Love,Mireya
