Have you ever had nothing to do but wander in a garden. Do you notice all of the colors and the breeze or the warmth of the sun hugging you? Georgia O’Keeffe’s flower paintings always remind me to take time and just be.

This week I was honored to guide a 2nd-grade class in painting big flowers. Georgia was all nature and taking the time to observe its beauty. Her words are absolutely me.
“Singing has always seemed to me the most perfect means of expression. It is so spontaneous. And after singing, I think the violin. Since I cannot sing, I paint.” ―
Yes and Yes! I still sing.
Here’s how this project helped me be a better artist.
Horrible paper does not matter!
We painted on construction paper. As you can see it didn’t matter. We used Prang and Crayola watercolors. The students didn’t have small brushes. Yet, students came up with bright unique beautiful flowers. The paper is the worst surface that I painted on. Oh, but a student called it his canvas! Another student was talking Bob Ross.
Make a Mess Destress
Everyone had brilliant ideas. There were no disagreements, misbehaving, and chaotic noise. There was laughter and focus. The students wanted more.
Art Unifies Us
Art speaks to us all. Art speaks to us in different ways. Art speaks a beautiful language! Music unites us in the same way. Language doesn’t matter because all move to the beat. We all have rhythm. Once again there was no noise, no disrespect because we were one. We were all artists painting our way.
Everyone is an artist
We can make magic if we allow ourselves to pick up the brush or whatever tool we choose. We don’t need permission. I recorded the art and each one is unique. We all basically had the same tools to work with but wow! Magic happens when we are free to express our ideas!
What project are you working on? I would love to see your work. I will put Wild About You together and share more of that project with you.
Thanks for reading. Enjoy your day and have a good week!
With Love, Mireya
