My goodness, it has been a while since I painted these. They are beautiful! I appreciate them more than when I painted them.

Inspiration

I love wandering around in an Anthropologie store. The kitchen & dining items, colors, and patterns are a delight. I painted a flower arrangement that would look beautiful in my home. Sometimes I’ll imagine that and paint from that perspective.

How I painted my flowers

The supplies that you will need are a round craft brush, pink watercolor ink, watercolor or mixed media paper, and other fun tools like markers.

These are my supplies and simple suggestions. Use what you have. I use different tools because I want to experiment with new tools. It makes for more interesting art.

I used my round stamp to paint the petals. For my beautiful pink color, I mixed Wild Rose ink pink with white gouache. Don’t you just love the name, Wild Rose? You know that is exactly why I purchased it. I love the idea of outlining flowers with a pen.

What I learned for next time

This paper is mixed media but it’s terrible for watercolor. The paint dried with blotches. Instead of the watercolor magic it just stayed and absorbed into the paper like a napkin. Oh, but the ombre effect on the vase is beautiful. Now that I know I can paint like this, I will on watercolor paper. Seems like I’ve been back and forth. It’s all in a good day of creative exploration.

What I love most about art is that the process satisfies my curiosity. Love the process and you’ll learn more. Here’s to making more messes.
