Love this blue!

I am scrolling through old posts and deciding which one to repost today. Of course, Aristotle caught my attention, and here we are!

“The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.” – Aristotle

The words above relate to the Wicked Blooms post I published yesterday. Sometimes, we worry far too much about what others think of us. We feel compelled to paint the beautiful pink rose we saw in the garden or become overwhelmed by the countless profiles that have thousands of subscribers, thinking we need to paint like that. All we need to do is make art from our authentic selves.

Not while we paint, but after we paint we should think about why we paint. How does it make you feel? What is your inspiration? As you paint these answers will reveal themselves.

Let me think about my art.

I don’t know what it is about pink roses these days, but pink roses have my heart. I paint the way nature makes me feel. When I am walking under the moon and stars, I feel a great peace and abundance. I am reminded of my purpose and place. I feel the same as I am walking in a garden.

My color palette is warm, cheerful, and friendly. At times my palette is bright. I always have lots of texture. I recently saw a video where an artist was teaching how to remove some of the texture from a painting. Why would I ever want to do that? There is something about the texture and how it dries that fascinates me. We all have our process, our story. We should always make art from that center. That is where the magic is!

I am always intrigued by watching an artist create art. I always think about how children just create. I always ask, “How did you do that?” They simply say, “I don’t know I just did it!”
