Art supplies box filled with lots of paint

I love to paint! Over the years I have collected a wonderful assortment of colors. If I were to add up the cost of all of the supplies I have in my box, I probably don’t want to know. Oh, maybe in tomorrow’s post, I can create a list of ideas to help you build your own list. The truth is you can have a few colors that are professional grade, but you don’t need expensive paint to make great art. In this post, I will share my two expensive purchases. We’ll doodle and paint textures.

On to the fun!

My most expensive art supplies

The most expensive art supplies that I have ever purchased are two tubes of paint. The first one was Mission Gold Cobalt Turquoise Watercolor at $15 a tube. The second one is a Liquitex Heavy Body Quinacridone Magenta at $20. These prices are actually sale prices. The Quinacridone Magenta is a must, but did I create amazing art with the Mission Turquoise? I have had more fun with the Golden Fluid Turquoise which costs at least half the price of a Mission tube. I say splurge on a few favorite colors that you will use a lot.

Let’s doodle!

Quinacridone Magenta

I use magenta to mix practically all of my colors. No doubt I will use this paint. Let me do that now! The pink, orange, and green were all mixed with the Professional Grade Magenta Paint. This is the white tube. The textured paper above was painted with student-grade Basics magenta. Both of these magentas serve me well!

When I began painting, I thought I needed professional paint but there are a lot of options at great prices. There is an artist who said,” You can give an artist a box of crayons. They’ll create awesome art because they are an artist.” This topic is to be continued in tomorrow’s post.

Thank you for reading. Make sure you are a subscriber if you enjoy A Painted Garden. I will do my best to create daily posts. Most of the time it will be here and occasionally I will post on Pinterest and Instagram. Follow me on all my social media creative spaces to get all things abstract flowers. Oh, let me know what is your most expensive tool and if it was worth it?
