Working on painting pink abstract roses

Have you read my 13 tips for acrylic painting post? I am glad I wrote these tips. The tips are helping me get into carefree moments of bliss. In today’s post, I will share how you can mix lovely shades of pink and peach. I’ll share how I paint flowers. We all have a style of painting and this is mine.

Let’s get painting!

Supplies

Quinacridone Magenta, Titanium White, Primary Yellow, and Turquoise. (Use what colors you have or want. It’s your art. I have an obsession with pink and peach these days. Although blue roses are interesting too! )

Filbert acrylic paintbrush, small flat brush, and wax paper for my palette. Oh and a palette knife for mixing paint.

Mixing lovely pinks

I mentioned how to mix colors in 13 acrylic painting tips. Let me share how you can mix beautiful pinks. Begin with titanium white. Gradually add in magenta. Set aside some of that pink. With the rest of the pink, add more magenta. You keep going creating various tones of pink

At some point, you gradually add yellow to a few of your pink colors. Here is where the turquoise comes in. Add just the tiniest amount of turquoise to your magenta. Turquoise deepens your magenta. You can gradually mix in titanium white for lovely lavender pinks. Beautiful!

Different Strokes

We all have our strokes. By strokes, I mean the way we paint. I paint with flat and round brushes. Flat brushes work best for me when painting roses.

Paint wide crescent strokes with a light pink or peach color. Your strokes will create a random circle shape. Then add more magenta to the light pink or peach. Begin layering crescent moon-type strokes. Switch to a smaller flat brush to paint small crescent shapes for the center of the flower. If you are painting pink flowers, blend in a little yellow or magenta.

There you have it, a quick way to mix beautiful pink tones. As I painted I was thinking about my week and Curly Niki’s podcast. My strokes were soft. I held the brush loose. Holding the brush loose gave me lots of texture. Oh, I forgot to mention how I mixed my leaves. Add a little magenta to your turquoise. Mix in yellow and titanium white and layer.
