It had been a long time since I painted. Ok, it was only 3 weeks but oh my did I miss painting! I doodled with paper and pens but no painting or mess. You can imagine how ready I was to paint! What if I forgot how to paint? A flower ornament bouquet? Positive Messages posters and prints? What happened to the finger painting project I was working on? Am I ready? Sound familiar? Sounds like procrastination? Fear? Doubt? Insecurity? All the above.
At that point, I decided it was time to paint flowers. What better way to celebrate my birthday than to get back into painting the flowers that bring me peace and joy. I have a new Blick Watercolor Tablet. I admit it. I was not ready to use that paper. How about a notes journal. Yes! We all go through these moments in our process. That’s when we really need to stop that thinking and make art.

This is the journal that I use to doodle and swatch colors. I keep saying I should have it open as a reference for mixing my colors but rarely do. When in doubt have a cheap journal where you can doodle. I also have a collage-ruled notebook where I have been doodling with Crayola Markers and pens. No matter what I will always make art!

My point for today’s post is no matter what, make art. When you have doubt. Listen to it, question it a little, but most importantly make art. Paint your ideas. The best ideas truly happen when you make art. That is all! I put painting on pause for 3 weeks because I wasn’t feeling well. Even then, I doodled! If I have that level of love for painting flowers, I shouldn’t let anyone or anything hold me back. In the words of Tabitha Brown, I’m going to keep painting flowers the way I do because that’s my business.
I have a list of ideas and projects to blog about. And yes I am working on the ornament flower bouquet. I’ll post my progress on Instagram. Thank you for reading and for your lovely comments. If you haven’t subscribed, please join us!
