In the spirit of painting your heart out I am going to share a painting that had me using various tools. I have been thinking about my abstract flower paintings as gardens that I could walk through. The pops of color and big vine leaves make me smile and feel the way I feel when I walk through an actual garden. These days it has been morning walks. I’m deep in thought and suddenly a pop of color captures my eye.
I wanted to paint leisurely summer. I put my color mixing skills to use. I mixed Quinacridone Magenta with Primary Yellow to get a warmer yellow and orange, beautiful! I almost let this painting go. It felt boring so I kept working or shall I say play. I finger painted flowers on the leaves. I made sure to keep Magenta my color hero. Like my student, I took a round brush to create teal textured strokes for the background. I finished with gold green Neocolor details. Time to revel in my ideas is the summer I speak of. This always leads to my best art.
Have a tool or painting idea that you want to share? I’d love to learn about it.
