a paper collage poster of earth's layers

This session’s art project was a mosaic of the earth’s layers. I’d show you the sample slide but where’s the fun in that. The 2nd grade class had their own ideas as children always do. I gave them the tools and they went to work. The grown-up in me was all, but it’s supposed to be a mosaic. What if the glue doesn’t dry clear. There was a spot where it didn’t dry clear. Oh, but the children always know best.

One kid colored the words inner core. Another colored the word layers. A few kids worked on gluing the stars. Everyone participated. I had my doubts but wow did the poster come together! Did we make a mess? We got glue all over the place. Yes, I even got glue in my hair.

Why not cut out the pieces we needed and glue them on a fresh piece of poster poster?

Improvising as we paint along. Learning to embrace all that happens. Trusting the process. If you make a mistake, it becomes part of the process. These are all tools of amazing artists. The best part of creating is letting go of what it should be and creating self-expression.

I forgot to take a picture of the finished poster but at least I remembered to take a few photos.

With Love,

Mireya
