Tell good stories. I’m reading Austin Kleon‘s Show Your Work and just finished the “Tell Good Stories” chapter. I finished guiding 2nd-grade students in painting their version of Diego Rivera’s Flower Vendor.
I find myself working on a design for days. I’ll layer color and texture. Each layer is a step in creating the art I was born to create. It’s nothing technical or fancy but how I dip the brush and stroke it across the page. It’s the color I decided to use. That’s an interesting story. The way each of my students painted Diego Rivera’s Flower Vendor is interesting. Holding on to my cabinet of curiosity and being brave enough in a noisy world to express who you are is where the best work comes from.
Expressing who you are in your work means you do the work not for money, fame, or perfection but because you want to. It doesn’t matter what people say or do. You just have this habit. It’s you and your supplies. And so my goal for Creatively Hue is to let go of everything and focus on me. Yes, I am keeping Creatively Hue.
Every day as I do my skin routine I say these words. I am abundance. Yes, there’s a voice that says, “Oh well. Throw it away and start over.” That’s when I say I don’t know what I’m doing but I’ll keep going and see what happens.” That’s why I have been taking my time and layering. If I made a mistake, who cares, keep going. As I keep going, I’m growing, I’m blooming! I know this road will take me to art dreams come true. Is that what the breeze, moon, and flowers have been suggesting? Go on girl do your thing.
All I know is that I have been creating like I have never created before and more of you comment such lovely thoughts. Thank you! Together we bloom. I should create an art print for this idea. Sure!
Siempre,
Mireya
