two big pink flowers with leaves

This week, my work was colorful. My copy of Show Your Work has arrived. I heard these words a lot. Your work is good. I can’t draw like that. You’re an artist. Yes, I am an artist. Do you hang up your art around your house? Are you making money with your art? I dream of a studio space. To wake up, get dressed, and head over to my studio room to paint. Paint the ideas in my heart. Paint the way nature makes me feel. These are the lessons that are helping me be a better artist.

Live the dream

Paint like you are the artist. Paint with a grateful spirit for where you are right now. Write your mantra. Focus on the art.

Make Art

The above flowers were painted with leftover paint. I wasn’t sure what to paint. Then an idea popped into my head. I simply painted. I was working on a poster. I was worried about time. As I drew there was this struggle between do I have enough time. Will my poster work out? I messed up on a few details. These pink flowers were painted in 15 minutes or less. The difference between these flowers and the poster is I painted in the moment. I made art. The key to making great art is to make art.

Pursue happiness

I spent a good deal of this week, teaching democracy, and freedom to third-graders. You are free to think, believe, and pursue what happiness means to you. Always know you have a beautiful light shining within you like the torch of The Statue of Liberty. Always let your light burn. Last week, I wrote about abundance. Abundance is knowing that you have that light and you let that light burn. No apologies. You just let the light burn. For me of course, the light is art. I shall take my own brilliant advice.

Self-Care is Self-Love

All we really have control over is our actions and thoughts. Eat right. Read good books. Feed your mind long walks. I have a terrible cold. I want to paint and keep up with my Wild About You project but I’m sick. I tried to paint today. It was OK. Good art feeds on good health.
