acrylic painted blue vase filled with pink and blue roses

To be a better artist, make more art. I have been painting for a long time. I have learned that just painting is the magical formula to being the artist of your dreams. I plan on featuring a weekly, be the better artist Sunday post with tips that help me be a better artist. This week’s tips are as follows.

Be the better artist

Embrace that you know nothing. Be wowed by all the ways you can stroke a brush. Yes, I like that. Children are my teachers. They don’t necessarily have an idea. Children are excited to use their favorite colors. They are free to express themselves. Children don’t have preconceived notions of what art is. Be the better artist. Paint! Create!

Gouache I think I love you

I have premium and student-grade paint from different brands. My layering is never as opaque as Suzanne’s. She layers on color and it just works. She likes gouache because of it’s opacity and no scanning surprises. I do like acrylic paint but…

Try something, try it all

I said that fluorescent paint may be harder to scan. Now I am testing my new Epson Perfection v39 scanner. I kept scanning the flowers and getting dull colors. I think I found a solution! The button that preserves details is true to its name! My flowers are brighter and beautiful. I am so glad I’m in the spirit of I don’t know what I am doing. Life is all the more interesting in this place!

Blog Ideas

Oh boy, do I have ideas! Right now my goal is to scan all of my wild about you flowers. I organized my paint tray. I have a big reason to paint. I want to use up the acrylic to make space for gouache. I have a list of blog topics going. It will include how to use inks and paper roll stamp flowers. Oh, that reminds me, I found a fabulous gold.

Abstract Flowers Are My Game

Yes, I love to doodle. Let me see if I have an example to share.

I do! These are the flowers I want to paint. I bring this up because I caught myself doing abstract patterns. I finished a painting course. These abstract patterns are part of the artist’s style. I love love the idea that you begin with scribbles and layer color and technique. Before your eyes your scribbles become beautiful art. I like abstract art but want to focus on how nature makes me feel. This weekend I am going to focus on sketching flowers. For a while I’ll observe nature and paint how it makes me feel. Of course I am a sponge and absorb all that sparks my curiosity but it has to be me an paint.

Thank you so much for reading! I am working on self-hosting for a bibber better website. I’d like to have a feature where you can download your copy of Wild About You when it becomes available. I have a lot to work on. Time to go grocery shopping.

Siempre,
