I was listening to a Q&A art licensing podcast. One question caught my attention. What do you do when you worry that your art will never be good enough. You have endless ideas but can’t transfer the ideas to canvas. The reason an artist can’t transfer brilliant ideas to canvas is because they’re too busy worrying.

The worry many times has nothing to do with you. You might look at other art from your favorite artist and think, wow that’s amazing. Then you look at your art and ponder your place, your style? We have brilliant ideas. By brilliant I mean an idea that excites us, warms us, and radiates peace. We have ideas, the artist said so herself. I say so. I have learned that the best way to find your style is to paint. Pick up the paintbrush and paint. That’s it. That’s the magic formula. It is magic. Once you start painting the ideas follow.

Art Journaling

Art journaling allows you to explore. You see what happens. My ideas always come from actual painting. There’s freedom in creating. You learn to listen and trust the voice that’s always been there.

Creative Space

Set a space where you create. It’s got to be you and your supplies. No phones. Yes, I research Pinterest flower arrangements. I try not to do research as I’m painting because I begin doubting. Then perfection comes around. Make your art time special. Surround yourself with a few tools. Include your favorite color. Set a time, place and day where it’s just you and your tools.

Be Gentle With Yourself

Make mistakes. Dream. Wander in nature. We are all artists. I recently worked on a flower pot with a class. We all had access to the same paint and tools. Yet every flower is unique. We are too. There is no right way to paint a flower.

Today I’m sharing some of my art. These are the paintings of my spirit, my heart. I need that reminder.

Siempre,

Mireya
