An arrangement of pink flowers in a pastel pink vase

Yesterday I shared my favorite journal entries. Today I am sharing my favorite journal entry, lessons I’ve learned, and a link to part 1 of the creative exploration I pinned on Pinterest.

My Favorite Journal Entry

My favorite journal entry is the blue flowers. I stepped away from how I normally paint. This was right at the time I discovered Suzanne Allard. She just paints and builds up beautiful artwork with simple tools. It made me feel like yes, I can do that!

The Lessons You Learn With An Art Journal

Creative Exploration

This is my book. I could use watercolor, acrylic, scribble, and see how ink layers over oil pastel. Creative exploration is more than testing new tools and learning new techniques. Instead, it’s about letting go of all the noise in your head. You know the voice that shows up uninvited proclaiming you are not an artist. Or you question what you think you should do. As you paint you get wiser and smarter.

Don’t judge your work

We judge our work as good or bad. We get attached to the good and hold onto the bad. I enjoy watching my students create. These artists simply pick up the paint brush and paint. Enjoy the process. You’ll go amazing places.

Ideas will always find you!

I’ve been working on a roses book project for a few months now. The theme is friendship for the spirit, the soul. I am passionate about the project but lacked confidence. I now have an idea!

Surrender

I can’t control what others think about me or my work. I can’t control any outside forces. All I can do is listen to the voice inside and paint with that freedom. Once I surrender I can explore and become wiser and smarter. Wisdom helps you appreciate all of your work. As you paint the answers will find you.

Do you have a journal? As always thank you for reading.

Siempre,

Mireya

One response to “What Art Journaling Has Taught Me…”

  1. […] I should paint the background white so that the background has a hint of pink? A white background will make the colorful arrangement pop more. Yes, contrast is king! I want more contrast within the flowers. It’s going to be beautiful! This is exactly what I meant when I said don’t judge your work. […]
